It is my husband's new blog and portfolio to showcase all the amazing talents he has and what he has to offer as an artist...including photography, graphic design, a bit of animation, illustration with video incorporated too. I look forward to seeing all the amazing creative art pieces he comes up.
We collaborate on wedding assignments as well as other artistic endeavors, but Broken Lines Studio is all about him and his art. We have kind of a ying/yang relationship with our art to give clients the best of both worlds on what we can do. Take a look for yourself and keep up on what he is up to or contact him to see what he can create for you.
Here is one of many many things he is creating for me:)...for my website and for clients...I love having a talented husband that can help make some things in my head come to life...

Peonies also remind me of my beautiful and talented friend, Alana (MixedGreensEventDesign) in NYC. Our first photo shoot together was of her picking these flowers in a gorgeous field of just peony bushes.
Kisses to Alana all the way in NYC!

~Vali and Travis~...e-session...
The city of Denver has much to offer in the way of artistic inspiration. It is a photographer's dream come true with a vibrant downtown, amazing architecture and lines upon texture at every turn. Throw in a local couple that could double as models and you have the perfect set up for an unforgettable engagement session.
Vali and Travis made things easy as they provided the most important thing in capturing a life image...emotion. The session took place two days prior to their wedding and they managed to trade in anticipation and stress for the genuine passion they have shared for nearly ten years. We landed at some great locations such as the Denver Public Library, 16th Street Mall, the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art, assorted parking garages, alleys and even the occasional manhole cover spewing steam.
We were very fortunate to capture this very hip, sexy & fun couple. They represent the standard for urban cool...The wedding was so very sweet too, but that is another story...coming very soon...
*The hardest part was narrowing down images to post...please take a look at the slide show at the end of this post...There are some surprises in there:)...oh, & view in HD...it is worth it...xoxo

I was ecstatic for her. She had found her true love and perfect partner in life, Mario.
These two are so meant for one another. They laugh constantly and I LOVE that so much. I was able to capture some photos of their wedding and while I was not taking photos, my very talented hubby, Daniel, took over for me. These are just a few of my favorites from their special San Diego beach wedding.
Kristy and I have known each other since birth and seriously spent the first half of our lives inseparable, then my family moved to Durango, CO. We have stayed close for the last 31.5 years and she means the world to me. I am so blessed that she is in my life and I adore her husband and I am so happy they have found each other.
What I didn't realize while enjoying their special day was that it was not just their beginning of a new life together, but a necessary moment in time for my husband and I to realize we were due for a new beginning as well. Sun + beach can do strange things for your take on life and help isolate what is most important to the family's happiness as each day passes by faster and faster.
Long story short, we decided it was time to say goodbye to our beautiful little home town and forge a path together in to the city with aspirations of landing at our own special place along the beach in the future. Our hearts and creative minds have centered on Denver where we already enjoy many wonderful friends and are addicted to the endless pallets the city holds for capturing what we see as artists. This move just feels right. We will treat Denver as our hub for traveling to our clients in CO, CA, NY, special destinations, and of course Durango (where we will come back often to visit family, friends & of course, schedule photo sessions). I, along with my husband, expect to continue offering the best service I can to all past and future clients while expanding as artists and offering a very special look into the lives of those we are lucky enough to work with and call our friends.
We want to show our daughters that you can follow your dreams and be happy in everything that you do ~ no matter what it is. We want to be the happiest parents so that they can be the happiest of children.
So, we are embarking on a beautiful adventure to make a new life in a new city that we love and go explore the world while taking photographs for the most amazing clientele.
If you would like us to photograph you, please don't hesitate to contact us as we will travel to any location and welcome the new adventures!
Estimated time of departure from Durango to Denver is late summer 2010...stay tuned...
xoxo-heidi

...oh how I heart the happiness it has created...

well lady, i'm just thrilled for you. I LOVE what you said about making yourselves happy so your girls will learn how to do that for themselves. That's my mantra as a parent!! Way to follow what gets you going!!! And how awesome is it that both you and Daniel are into the same pursuit...!
(06.01.10)Heidi - You guys did an amazing job with the pics! I love that Daniel ran to the water after you decided! Your girls are so luck to have both of you...you are making a move that is going to bring so many opportunities to your family. Cheers to your new journey and being close to an airport so we can visit more often!!!! I love you and cherish our friendship so much Muah!
(05.28.10)Wow, I just totally teared up with the last picture of Daniel...the excitement I have for you and your family is tremendous! Go get it...I'm so proud of you both! By the way, remember back when little Hazel was your first client and I said you were destined for massive success...I TOLD YOU SO!
Much love,
Amy D

Doug & Kristen wanted a romantic & elegant winter wedding...One of their favorite getaway resorts is the luxurious Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado (near Telluride)...so they thought it was ideal to get married there. The setting was absolutely amazing...They rented the entire "town" for the weekend so their friends and family could share in the celebration for a few days with them...And I absolutely adored what Mixed Greens Events designed for them ~ a blend of modern elegance with the rustic setting...brilliant...oh how I love ghost chairs...
Other things I loved about their wedding story ~ How Doug flew her to NYC to go to Vera Wang (where she got her "Audrey") and then to Tiffany's for rings...Their equal love for champagne and chocolate & how they were so good about not having any sugar a few weeks up the wedding *I secretly think it is so they could completely enjoy everything at heightened senses on their wedding day*...And their sweet Rumba dance...love love love...And the angels were sending their wishes and kisses the night of the wedding as the snow fell beautifully all night long...just as Kristen had hoped it would...
...
I was so honored they chose me to be their photographer.
Thank you Doug & Kristen...Congratulations...love you both...

...I LOVE this company and wanted to show you some of their beautiful products...
...I am particularly fond of this company as they fit my style so perfectly...
...They are individually handcrafted by artisans and use the finest materials to create their albums, folios and presentation boxes. Each one of their products are made from rich, smooth, heavyweight fine art paper and fabric. They have a beautiful selection of elegant Japanese bookbinding fabrics and Swiss ribbons to color coordinate the products with your images, personal style or home.
...The craftsmanship is absolutely amazing...and I am so excited to keep filling up my home & studio with even more color combinations for me to enjoy and you to see...
...lots of love and a lot more to come soon too...
...I just wish there were more hours in the day...

(02.16.10)OK...this is probably the coolest photo I have ever seen! I love the super bright colors and it just makes me happy. I hope you had a wonderful Valentin's Day Heidi!!! :)

...I remember growing up always wanting to be an artist...I started drawing and painting at a very young age and took as many art classes as I could...I fondly remember one of my childhood friend's mother who was an amazing artist. I vividly remember all the art supplies carefully organized in canisters along the art tables, counters and windows...I mean tons of them. All organized by type and color...but "artist" organized, not super clean or perfect...just like they had been used and placed quickly back where they were supposed to go but able to be used right away... I loved that...I loved everything about the colors, the paper, the brushes, and the creating of something beautiful...As I grew older, I wanted more of it...I did fine in all my other studies, but art was by far, my favorite. My grandfather was an artist/illustrator for Disney back in the day and I loved just the notion that I was related to an artist...that kept my hope alive that I could do it too...
...I moved to Durango in the middle of my high school years and the only thing that made it easier were my art classes...I took them all:)...I instantly connected with my art teachers...they were so amazing...they made me feel like I belonged...I graduated with academic honors and received academic scholarships to a couple different colleges, including Fort Lewis...but my secret favorite thing is that I was entered into the National Art Honors Society as well as chosen as the Senior Artist of the Year when I graduated...if anyone out there has moved to a new city and knows how hard it is, then you may understand how honored and special I felt when told these things my last year of high school...It made it real that I might be able to pursue being an artist after high school...
...But then, you second guess yourself anyways...or at least I did...How could I possibly make it as an artist? What kind of stable job would I have? blah, blah, blah...I started off as an art major, not really thinking about what I would do after college...but all of a sudden I felt pressured to make a decision on what to do with my life...so, with one year away from graduating, I switched majors...and I graduated with an International Business Degree...what? I know...I just thought it may be really amazing to learn multiple languages and somehow incorporate the fashion world into it... so I set my sights on Parsons Design School and a move to Paris...I know what you are thinking...where did fashion come into play?...I forgot to mention that I LOVE the entire theatrics of a fashion show, the creating of clothing as well as the photographs that accompany them...wow...I love all of it and consider it an very beautiful art...So, I did the student exchange thing, lived in Europe and went to school while traveling across Europe. While there I visited each and every art museum I possibly could...I was kind of obsessed...well, because they are amazing...and I planned on going to Parsons as soon as I graduated college (I think I still have the vhs tape they send you when you apply)...I dreamed of one day having my own art gallery...a beautiful modern art gallery.... as well as doing something, anything in the fashion industry...
...well...then I came home, graduated...and...happened to meet the love of my life, my husband, Daniel... who knew he would be right in Durango too...and on a blind date set-up to top it all off...seriously...I never would have thought that...
...now 10 years later we have two gorgeous daughters...wow...I have a super blessed life...and I am now able to fulfill the artist in me...and do it with photography...and to my surprise, I have the most amazing clients who hire me to photograph them...that is the most extraordinary thing ever...I LOVE making people feel beautiful and taking images that freeze a moment, a kiss, a smile, a hug all while creating a piece of art...all the special moments that I share with my husband and daughters make me appreciate every single day...I get to capture that for other people...That is so special to me and I do not take that for granted...It is very exciting to me that I get to do what I absolutely love and make people happy all at the same time...It is like all the paths in my life led me to this place...
...extra little tidbits...I have been doing graphic design and using adobe photoshop & other various adobe design products for over 12 years now...so the blend of all of my nerdy computer skills and obsession with art just blend together quite perfectly:)...
...Ahh...what a dream...and I want to take this SO many places...so please stay and enjoy it with me! I can't wait for all that lies ahead...I still dream of a modern art gallery of my own...who knows:)...my new downtown boutique office is a start...
...Here are a few photos (of two cutie pie sisters) for those of you who do not feel like reading this or to at least make up for boring you to death :) ...
Lots and lots of love...
xoxo-heidi

great post, heidi! it's so cool to see a little glimpse of the journey you took to become the amazing artist that you are. your stories are very inspiring...although reading them makes me wish i wasn't so boring! :-)
(01.29.10)Heidi you are ART. we are all so lucky to get to see LIFE thru your eyes.
(01.28.10)Heidi - You are beautiful my friend, inside and out...I think it is amazing that you have taken your art into photography. I remember always wishing I had one of your paintings and thinking how cool it was that they were hung on your parents walls like "real" art. I'm excited now to get to have some of your photos on my walls. Your clients are all blessed to have you behind the lense. Muah!
(01.28.10)
